Antique Bristol Glass Necklace, ca 1830
Our Notes
Deep cobalt Bristol blue glass was among the most coveted decorative luxuries of the 18th and early 19th centuries, prized for a rich, luminous intensity that rivaled fine sapphires. Bridging late Georgian romance and Regency grandeur, this dramatic silver necklace pairs vivid blue glass roundels with undulating ribbons of brilliantly cut paste stones. Regal fleur-de-lis accents frame the architectural silhouette, set in substantial closed-back mountings that reflect light back through the cobalt glass and paste.
Accompanied by a fitted period box, the piece remains an extraordinary survival of 1830s craft, balancing the romantic sensibility of late Georgian design with the durable structural integrity of early casting techniques. Sitting close to the collarbone at a classic 40cm length, it holds a substantial presence on the neck while retaining a fluid, graceful drape. A rare collector's piece, it captures all the theatrical elegance and color-rich artistry of the era.
