Antique Queen Anne Ribbon Necklace, ca 1750
Our Notes
In the 18th century, master bench jewelers held high-quality paste in equal esteem to natural gemstones, often interspersing flat-cut garnets and paste stones within the same piece to achieve a perfectly harmonious color palette. In this early Georgian ribbon necklace, the garnets and pastes are seamlessly blended together, crafted so masterfully that distinguishing between the two requires modern gemological technology.
Rendered in warm gilt metal, the fluid floral motif retains its original ribbon fittings, designed to be tied gracefully around the neck. Equally remarkable is its original fitted box, lined in soft velvet and satin. When jewelry remains protected in its original case across centuries, it tells us the piece was cherished and carefully preserved through generations. Exceptional around the neck, it looks just as captivating displayed in a shadow box as a piece of art. A true collector's treasure, it celebrates the ingenuity of early European craftsmanship.
