Antique Revival Earrings, ca 1875
Our Notes
These Victorian revival earrings showcase the distinct warm, matte texture of bloomed gold, a hallmark technique of the late 19th century. Crafted in 14k gold, each earring features a fixed, domed surmount that suspends a larger matching gold dome, flanked by a fluid length of beautifully proportioned belcher chain. The delicate chain adds subtle movement, creating a clean vertical line that balances the sculptural weight of the gold spheres.
The soft, buttery finish is achieved through blooming, a process where the gold surface was acid-treated to leave behind a layer of pure, high-karat yellow gold. Paired with comfortable 14k gold earwires, this pair offers a wonderful example of Victorian archeological revival style, bringing a tactile, historical finish to a sleek, modern silhouette.
