Antique Etruscan Revival Bracelet, ca 1880
Our Notes
In the late 19th century, archaeological excavations across Italy ignited a grand fascination with antiquity, giving rise to the Etruscan Revival style. Jewelers across Europe were captivated by ancient techniques, celebrating precise metalwork, bold symmetry, and intricate texture. This magnificent bracelet was crafted around 1880 by the renowned Viennese maker Alexander Birkl, whose workshop was celebrated for bringing a refined, imperial elegance to historical revival jewelry.
Rendered in rich 14k gold, the bracelet features striking geometric enamelwork highlighted by crisp black stripes, beautifully framed by meticulously detailed granulated terminals. A lustrous pearl accent provides a soft, elegant counterpoint to the sharp architectural lines, while Birkl's hallmark is marked on the back. A rare, signed piece of Austrian jewelry history, this bracelet effortlessly bridges ancient Mediterranean design with late 19th-century Viennese artistry.
