Antique Double-Drop Earrings, ca 1800
Our Notes
Small in scale but exceptionally rich in color, these Georgian double-drop earrings highlight the distinct jewel tones of 18th-century paste. Set in gold with fine, crimped collet settings, a stationary top oval suspends a single articulated drop that sways with movement. Each green stone is backed with metallic foil, a bench technique used by historical jewelers to reflect candlelight and give the glass a deep, emerald-like glow.
The fixed gold earwires keep the silhouette neat and close to the ear lobe. It is a quiet, well-preserved pair that illustrates how Georgian jewelers used scale and subtle articulation to bring color to life.
